My Clinical Background

Welcome! My name is Ashley Dountz and I am the owner of AD Counseling LLC. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Board Approved Supervisor in the state of Kentucky. I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Evansville in Indiana and went on to obtain a Master of Science in Social Work degree from the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work.

Before venturing out into the private practice space, I worked in Community Mental Health Care for 6 years. During that time, I gained valuable and extensive experience working with vulnerable, high-risk populations. Since leaving CMHC in 2022, I have continued working with a variety of populations and have continued to grow my clinical skills through attending continuing education trainings and ongoing consultation with colleagues.

My Therapeutic Style

I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is an equally important tool within the therapeutic process as the treatment modality that is used. I seek to build a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients and with the use of empathy, curiosity and humor I strive to create a safe space for processing, exploration and healing.

I also believe that my clients are the experts of their own lives and experiences. I have a deep passion for helping clients, and their support systems, tap into their inherent strength and resilience. With these things in mind, I do my best to walk alongside my clients and empower them to make decisions that build towards a life that feels authentic and worth living.

& Treatment Approach

As a trained Social Worker, I tend to take a systems approach in working with clients. I support the belief that the whole individual, along with the individual’s environment, must be taken into consideration in order to achieve long-lasting and meaningful change. To meet clients where they are and adapt treatment based on the client’s needs, I incorporate a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities, such as Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Therapy, and both play and expressive therapy techniques.  I am also trained in Collaborative Approach to Managing Suicide (CAMS) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP).
